Characterization of interannual and seasonal variability of hydro-climatic trends in the Upper Indus Basin

چکیده
High-resolution seasonal and annual precipitation climatologies for the Upper Indus Basin were developed on basis of 1995–2017 normals obtained from four-gridded datasets (APHRODITE, CHIRPS, PERSIANN-CDR, ERA5) quality-controlled high- mid-elevation station observations. Monthly is estimated through anomaly method at catchment scale, then, it compared with observed discharges over 1975–2017 period verification detection changes in hydrological cycle. Running trends spectral analysis gridded dataset performed. The Mann–Kendall test was employed to detect significance whereas Pettitt used identify change points discharge time series. results indicate that bias corrected CHIRPS precipitation, followed by ERA5, performed better terms RMSE, MAE, MAPE, BIAS against rain gauge running trend exhibits a slight increase but shows significant winter precipitation. A runoff coefficient greater than one, especially glacierized sub-catchments Shigar, Shyok, Astore, Gilgit, indicates likely be underestimated glacial melt provides excess volumes warming climate. Streamflow variability found pronounced rather scale. Kachura gauges are slightly significantly increasing. Seasonal reveals more complex regimes, varying different catchments, its comparison favors deeper understanding snow-, ice-melt dynamics, addressing hydroclimatic behavior Karakoram region some weaknesses monitoring network high altitude.

Conflicting Signals of Climatic Change in the Upper Indus Basin
Temperature data for seven instrumental records in the Karakoram and Hindu Kush Mountains of the Upper Indus Basin (UIB) have been analyzed for seasonal and annual trends over the period 1961–2000 and compared with neighboring mountain regions and the Indian subcontinent. Strong contrasts are found between the behavior of winter and summer temperatures and between maximum and minimum temperatur...
متن کاملFuture changes in hydro-climatic extremes in the Upper Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra River basins
Future hydrological extremes, such as floods and droughts, may pose serious threats for the livelihoods in the upstream domains of the Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra. For this reason, the impacts of climate change on future hydrological extremes is investigated in these river basins. We use a fully-distributed cryospheric-hydrological model to simulate current and future hydrological fluxes and for...

Seasonal to interannual upper-ocean variability in the Drake Passage
Year-round monitoring of the upper-ocean temperature variability in Drake Passage has been undertakensince September 1996 through repeat expendablebathythermograph(XBT) surveys. The closely spaced measurements (6–15 km apart) provide the rst multi-year time series for examining seasonal to interannual variability in this Southern Ocean choke point. While the temperature sections reveal the se...
